  • Hebrews 10:
!)Inadequacy of sacrifices of the Law:
i)The Old Covenant is the shadow. The New Covenant is the object(Body)
ii)The repetition of the sacrifices to be made under the Old Covenant proved that they are inadequate,
insufficient and ineffective and demonstrates its inefficacy.
iii)The blood of bulls did not take away the sin.
iv)Sins are remembered every year as there is no cessation of sacrifices under the Old Covenant.
    2)Effective sacrifice of Christ:
i)Jesus Christ offered one sacrifice for sins and sat on the right hand of God. Under the Old covenant, the priests stand daily ministering and offering the same sacrifices which do not take away sins.
ii)The redemption work is completed by Christ.Christ's offering is efficacious. When there is remission of sins, there is no need of any other sacrifice.
iii)The author quoted Psalm40:6-9 to stress the fact that Jesus Christ came in the flesh to fulfill the plan of Salvation of God to offer Himself as sacrifice for our sins to put an end to the animal sacrifices.
iv)We are sanctified and made perfect through the offering of the body of Jesus.(v10,14)
v)All who are in the New Covenant know the Lord and the laws are written in their hearts. He will never remember their sins or iniquities.(vs16,17.Jer.31:33,34,Heb.8:10-12
    3)Practical message:
The Old Covenant is abolished.(2 Cor.3:13)New Covenant is
established.(Heb.8:6).God has made the Old Covenant obsolete-no longer in full use and out of date.God has provided a new and living way. When Jesus Christ died on the Cross, the veil of the Temple was rent in twain from top to bottom.
    a)Let us go forward:
(i)Let us draw near with a true heart with full assurance.(v22)We are having access directly because of the sacrifice of Christ. We are made priests(1 Pet.2:9;Rev.1:5)
ii)Let us hold fast to the profession of faith without wavering.(v23)Read Heb.3:1;4:14)
iii)Let us consider one another to provoke with love and to good works.(v24)
iv)Let us not forsake the assembling of ourselves together and exhort one another.(v25)
    b)Danger of Apostasy:
i)After knowing the truth,if a person turns back, there is no other sacrifice to be offered.(v260
ii)The punishment will be heavy for those who backslide under the New Covenant.(v27)
iii)Our God is a consuming fire.It is fearful to fall into the hands of the living God.9v31.Heb.12:29)
    c)No turning back:
i)The author commended the perseverance of the Hebrew saints in the past. They endured the trials and persecutions. The author warned them not to turn back but to go ahead in the Christian life so that they may not lose the eternal rewards.(v32-36)
ii)The author gives a note about the Second coming of Christ to encourage them to wait for that incident. Then the author quoted Hab.2:4.The just shall live by faith.(Rom.1:17;Gal.3:11.faith is the foundation of Christian life.God is not always pleased with
those who turn back from faith.(v38,39;I Cor.10:5)Let us go ahead in faith.
